The Parliamentary Committee for Public Works, Energy and Water convened under the chairmanship of MP Sagih Atieh, with Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny in attendance.
At the end of the session, Atieh announced the allocation of nearly $40 million in funding for expropriations and the widening of the Jounieh Highway. With studies by the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) now finalized, work north of Beirut is expected to begin within a month – a “historic” milestone, according to the MP.
On the public transport front, the minister pledged to introduce 30 additional buses across all Lebanese regions, not just the capital. A separate Chinese donation of around 100 buses is also expected soon.
Discussions further touched on the Kleiate Airport Project, the Jounieh Marina, road safety, and the urgent need to update traffic signs, with changes scheduled to be implemented by September.
Finally, Atieh noted that the committee will soon meet with the Interior Minister to coordinate new measures against road accidents. As for the Chekka Highway Project, work is ongoing with secured funding, and completion is expected by year’s end.
