Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) signed on Tuesday a new Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) to prepare for the next national agricultural census.
This agreement marks the beginning of a crucial preparatory phase aimed at reviving the country’s agricultural data systems. The last agricultural census dates back to 2010, meaning that available information on farms and rural areas is now largely outdated.
The 18-month project aims to establish a solid legal and institutional framework, while also strengthening the technical capacities of ministry staff. The initiative is based on the latest standards of the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2030.
This strategic partnership seeks to provide Lebanon with an accurate and up-to-date overview of its agricultural sector, to promote public policies based on reliable data, sustainable rural development and more resilient agri-food systems.
