The tatamis of Amman trembled under the moves of the Lebanese fighters, who pulled off a brilliant sweep with three championship titles and as many third-place finishes.
It was a fruitful outing for the Lebanese judo delegation, who returned from the Jordanian capital after participating in the prestigious Arab Judo Championship. Under the auspices of the Arab Judo Federation, the tatamis of Amman saw the Lebanese colors shine six times: three times atop the podium, and three more to claim bronze.
Comprising coaches Fadi Saikaly and Nacif Elias, along with 17 male and female judokas, the delegation showcased its unique style and determination. Special mention goes to Diego Saikaly, untouchable in the -81 kg category, Gio Haddad, king of the -50 kg, and Teressa Chayeb, dominant in the women’s -63 kg category. All three dominated their brackets to seize Arab gold.
The Lebanese team didn’t stop there: Michael Kamoun (-66 kg), Yoshido Saikaly (-77 kg) and Karl Boueri (-100 kg) fought hard to each bring home a bronze medal, rounding out an impressive overall performance.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the competition, the governing bodies of Arab judo convened in Amman. Good news for the local scene: the next edition of the Arab Clubs Cup is set to be held in Lebanon in November 2025—if, and only if, the security situation permits.
For now, the Cedar judokas can relish their success: they fought with heart and brought Lebanon multiple podiums in a discipline that continues to grow in strength.
