Lebanon may not be the world champion of Olympic calm, but it certainly has a surprise in store for you! With its 78th place (out of 147) in the Numbeo Safety Index ranking, it ranks ahead of major countries like the United States, France and England. Yes, you read that correctly – it’s quite an achievement! Who would have thought that, in a world where safety is a priority, Lebanon would stand out by offering a safer environment than Western giants? This small victory certainly deserves recognition!
The Numbeo Safety Index is an indicator that measures the level of security in a given city or country. It is calculated based on various factors, such as crime rates, perceptions of personal safety, and levels of violence in the region.
The score generally ranges from 0 to 100, with 0 indicating a very low security level (more dangerous) and 100 representing a very high security level (very safe). Lebanon recorded a score of 53.2, placing it ahead of Italy, which ranks 79th with a score of 53.1; the United Kingdom, which is 87th with a score of 51.7; the US, which is 89th with a score of 50.8; and France, which ranks 110th with a score of 44.6.
Andorra tops the ranking with an enviable security score of 84.7. The principality is followed by the United Arab Emirates (84.5), Qatar (84.2), Taiwan (82.9) and Oman (81.7). Saudi Arabia ranks 14th, Israel 34th, and surprisingly, despite the war, Palestine ranks 61st. Syria is in 140th place, and finally, Venezuela closes the ranking in 147th place.
