The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rassamni, inaugurated the automatic gates project at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport on Friday morning, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with the support of the German Federal Police. The project aims to enhance security and facilitate airport procedures by installing three security gates, barriers to organize queues, and departure gates in the passport area.
The project, costing $1.1 million, includes the installation of 30 automated gates to streamline passenger flow and improve security. It also includes six gates before the security checkpoint and 24 gates in the passport control area.
The Minister highlighted the importance of transparency in state administration, asserting that from now on “there is no room for error”. He also expressed his gratitude to the donors and partners who had made this project possible, despite the security challenges.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of pursuing reforms and strengthening the country's essential airport infrastructure. He assured that his priority is to guarantee security, not only at the airport but also in the ports and at the Masnaa border crossing.
Moreover, training on document security and fraud detection was provided to 50 airport staff members with the support of the IOM and its partners.
