Lebanese Basketball Legend Fadi al-Khatib Inducted into FIBA Hall of Fame

Basketball celebrates a momentous occasion with the induction of Lebanese sports icon Fadi al-Khatib into the prestigious FIBA Hall of Fame Class of 2025. This honor consecrates an exceptional career marked by individual and collective achievements, while underlining the profound impact of “the Tiger” on international and Lebanese basketball.

In a moving message on Instagram, Khatib shared his feelings on the accolade: “Today marks not only a personal achievement, but a monumental milestone in my life and career – a moment I have dreamt of for 30 years. The announcement of my induction into the Hall of Fame Class of 2025 is a profound honor that resonates deeply within me, and I stand here, overwhelmed with gratitude and pride.”

Khatib was the iconic captain of the Lebanese national team, carrying the hopes and dreams of his country on his shoulders. Every dribble, every shot, every victory and defeat was a manifestation of his love for Lebanon and its incredible fans. “Representing my country, wearing our colors, was both a privilege and a responsibility that I cherished deeply,” he declared.

Khatib’s career has been marked by his participation in three consecutive editions of the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2002, 2006 and 2010. He played a key role in Lebanon's three silver medals across his five appearances in the FIBA Asian Cup

Khatib joins a prestigious group of athletes, including Alphonse Bilé (Côte d'Ivoire), Andrew Bogut (Australia), Leonor Borrell (Cuba), Pau Gasol (Spain), Ticha Penicheiro (Portugal), Ratko Radovanovic (Serbia) and Dawn Staley (USA).
