Israel makes a clear distinction between its negotiations with the Lebanese government and its ongoing conflict with Hezbollah, U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa said following a meeting with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by Edward Gabriel, chairman of the American Task Force for Lebanon (ATFL).

According to Lebanese media reports, Issa told Berri that the purpose of the visit was to hear directly from him in order to better understand the situation in Lebanon and address specific issues, as some information circulating had been misinterpreted.

Ambassador Issa emphasized that U.S. aid to the Lebanese Armed Forces continues and confirmed that the visit of Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal to Washington is planned, though no specific date has been set. He added that any official messages to the United States are best communicated directly.

It is worth noting that General Haykal’s visit was previously canceled on November 18 following a statement issued by the Lebanese army regarding tensions along the border with Israel.
