The Lebanese Foreign Ministry filed a formal complaint through its Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York on Friday, protesting against Israel’s construction of two T-shaped concrete barrier walls inside internationally recognized Lebanese territory near the southern town of Yaroun. In a press release, the Foreign Ministry described the move as “a new and serious violation of Lebanese sovereignty.”

In addition, the ministry reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to fully implementing UN Resolution 1701 and the 2024 Declaration of the Cessation of Hostilities. It stressed the state’s right to regain full authority over decisions of war and peace, maintain exclusive control over weapons, and extend sovereignty across all Lebanese territory through its own security forces.

Lebanon urged the UN Security Council and Secretariat to “take immediate action” to halt further violations, demand the removal of the walls, and ensure Israel withdraws from all occupied areas to the south of the Blue Line, including five border sites.

The complaint also highlights the Lebanese Armed Forces’ efforts to implement a national plan for exclusive state control over weapons and to strengthen army deployment south of the Litani River in coordination with UNIFIL and the monitoring mechanism.

UNIFIL first inspected a “T-wall” southwest of Yaroun in October 2025, noting it crossed the Blue Line. Peacekeepers later observed additional construction southeast of Yaroun in November 2025, also apparently crossing the internationally recognized border.
