Lebanon Rushes for Aluminium as Imports Surge

In the first half of 2025, aluminium imports rose by 70% compared with the average for the same period over the past four years. This increase reflects strong demand driven by reconstruction efforts.

The price per tonne currently stands at around $4,234, slightly below the recent average of $4,700. However, it remains high compared to the peaks of 2022, when prices climbed to $7,140 per tonne as a result of the war in Ukraine.

According to customs data, Lebanon imported 18,964 tonnes of aluminium during the first six months of 2025, worth $80.3 million. By comparison, the average over the previous four years was around 11,245 tonnes per semester, with an average value of $53.1 million.

This surge in imports reflects a concrete reality. In a country where many homes have been damaged, aluminium has become indispensable. Windows, balconies, kitchens… once affected, this metal cannot be repaired and must be replaced entirely. This explains the rush for a material that is now vital to rehabilitation projects.
