Prime Minister Nawaf Salam underscored on Tuesday his government’s commitment to fully implementing its ministerial policy statement, with a particular focus on ensuring that only the Lebanese state retains the right to bear arms.

Salam highlighted the government’s “determination to pursue reforms and extend state authority across all Lebanese territory through its own forces.”

Responding to comments by US envoy Tom Barrack, who questioned both the government’s resolve and the role of the Lebanese Army, Salam voiced confidence in the army’s performance.

He stressed that the LAF is “carrying out its duties to safeguard Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability, including the implementation of its security plan approved by the Council of Ministers on September 5.”

The Prime Minister also appealed to the international community to “step up support for the army and to pressure Israel to withdraw from the points where it still maintains a presence on the border, and end its repeated attacks, in line with the November 2024 cessation of hostilities declaration.”
