President Joseph Aoun on Monday underscored Lebanon’s call for a “unified Arab position on all Arab issues,” reaffirming the country’s commitment to the Arab Peace Initiative adopted at the Beirut Summit.
Speaking before an Arab Parliament delegation led by its president, Mohammed bin Ahmed al-Yamahi, Aoun stressed the need for deeper regional cooperation. “We look forward to the establishment of a common Arab economic market because Arab interests must be one,” he said.
For his part, al-Yamahi voiced the Arab Parliament’s backing for Lebanon’s reform efforts under Aoun’s leadership and reiterated support for the country’s security and stability.
In a statement following the meeting, al-Yamahi said the Arab Parliament “remains committed to continuing coordination and cooperation with the Lebanese Parliament.” He added that Aoun’s proposal to create a common Arab market was welcomed and endorsed by the assembly.
