The Internal Security Forces (ISF) thwarted a drug smuggling attempt at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport on Friday, confiscating about 20 kilograms of Captagon pills.
According to an ISF statement, the narcotics were discovered with four Turkish nationals preparing to travel to Kuwait. The drugs had been strapped to their bodies with concealed wraps.
The operation was carried out by the airport inspection unit, part of the ISF division tasked with protecting embassies, institutions and public facilities. Authorities have reinforced airport security measures in an effort to curb trafficking attempts.
Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad al-Hajjar praised the work of the airport security team and highlighted the ministry’s determination to confront the smuggling of drugs and contraband through Lebanon. “This issue is one of our top priorities, and we follow it closely to protect Lebanese society and the societies of brotherly nations,” Hajjar said.
The four suspects remain in custody as investigations continue under judicial supervision.
