The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday that, in coordination with Lebanese authorities, one of the largest Captagon factories in the Middle East has been dismantled.

In a statement carried by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the ministry said that “close security and intelligence cooperation between Iraq’s General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs and Lebanon’s General Directorate of State Security led to a major breakthrough, the discovery and dismantling of a massive Captagon manufacturing plant in Lebanon’s Beqaa region.”

According to the statement, intelligence provided by Iraqi agencies enabled the Lebanese Army to launch a large-scale raid in mid-July 2025, seizing the factory and thwarting the production and distribution of huge quantities of narcotics. The operation was described as “the strongest blow yet to Captagon networks in the Middle East.”

In parallel, Lebanon’s General Directorate of State Security, in a letter addressed to Iraq’s Ministry of Interior, confirmed the success of the joint effort, noting that the collaboration reflects the depth of ties between the two countries and underscores Iraq’s leading role in combating cross-border threats, particularly drug trafficking, which it described as “the greatest danger to Arab community security.”
