The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has reported a sharp rise in health expenditures since the start of 2025, signaling early signs of recovery. Health benefits, including hospitalizations, medical care, and medications, have surged by 65% compared with the entire year of 2024.
On August 18, the NSSF approved two new financial advances totaling 322 billion Lebanese pounds, with 150 billion allocated for surgical procedures and 172 billion for dialysis treatments. Overall, the fund has disbursed nearly 3,298 billion Lebanese pounds to the health sector in the first half of 2025, compared with just 2,000 billion for the whole of 2024.
Mohammad Karaki, NSSF director, said these figures confirm that the fund is entering “a serious phase of recovery” and that health benefits are gradually returning to pre-crisis levels. He reiterated the NSSF’s commitment to regularly support hospitals and medical professionals, while warning that providers who fail to meet their obligations could face contract termination and legal action.
