A large fire on Thursday swept through the forests of al-Bira in the northern Akkar Governorate, destroying vast areas of olive groves.

Local authorities and firefighting teams worked to contain the blaze, which caused significant environmental and agricultural damage.

The incident occurred amid an extreme heatwave gripping Lebanon, expected to last until Saturday, August 16.

Earlier this week, the Civil Defense warned of heightened risks of heat-related illnesses, wildfires, and flash floods, urging residents to take extra precautions. Authorities advised against lighting fires in dry grass or forests, discarding cigarette butts outdoors, using fireworks near dry vegetation, or burning waste during hot, dry conditions. They also called on the public to immediately report any signs of smoke or fire.
