The Higher Judicial Council (HJC) on Tuesday welcomed the adoption of the Law on the Organization of the Judiciary, approved by Parliament on July 31, 2025, but cautioned that it falls short of fully guaranteeing judicial independence.
In a statement, the HJC praised the “many years of dedicated work” by the legislative and executive branches that culminated in the law’s passage, noting that some of its provisions “contribute to strengthening the independence of the judiciary.”
However, the Council warned that other provisions “do not meet the expectations and requirements for establishing genuine judicial independence and ensuring the proper functioning of judicial work,” particularly given its repeated recommendations on the matter.
