The Cabinet will convene on Wednesday at the Grand Serail to debate a set of high-impact national issues, with a major focus on securing international financing and advancing critical infrastructure projects.
At the forefront is a $250 million loan agreement with the World Bank to fund the Renewable Energy and Power System Enhancement Project. The initiative aims to boost electricity generation, integrate renewable energy sources, and modernize Lebanon’s fragile power grid, measures considered essential to easing the chronic blackouts affecting homes, businesses, and hospitals.
The Cabinet will also discuss a proposal to establish a Ministry of Technology and Artificial Intelligence, the first of its kind in Lebanon. If approved, the ministry would spearhead digital transformation, support the tech sector, and encourage innovation in a bid to open new economic pathways.
Recovery efforts from the 2020 Beirut Port explosion are also on the agenda. Ministers will review a grant from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to finance studies for rebuilding the destroyed grain silos, a crucial component of Lebanon’s food storage capacity and a symbolic step in the capital’s healing process.
In addition, the Ministries of Environment and Energy and Water will present urgent plans to address Lebanon’s worsening waste and wastewater crises, which have long posed threats to public health and environmental stability.
