
A powerful explosion on Saturday ripped through an arms depot belonging to Hezbollah, killing and wounding several Lebanese army soldiers on the outskirts of Majdelzoun – Wadi Zebqine near Tyre which is located south of the Litani River..
According to initial casualty reports, at least six soldiers were killed and several others wounded while they were trying tto dismantle the explosives.
The victims belonged to the army’s 5th Brigade and the Engineering Regiment.
Teams from the Civil Defense, the Lebanese Red Cross and the Islamic Health Society quickly responded to the scene as a second Army patrol was deployed to the area.
Local sources report at least ten wounded. The explosion also shook a Hezbollah facility in the southern city of Tyre.

Tributes from Aoun and Salam
The President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, called the Army Commander to affirm that "The blood of our valiant martyrs will not be shed in vain, and it will remain a beacon lighting the path of struggle for a free, sovereign, and independent Lebanon."
In an emotional statement, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam mourned the loss of “our brave soldiers who fell as martyrs in the South while performing their national duty.” He added: “All of Lebanon, state and people alike, bows in respect to their sacrifices and their pure blood, reaffirming that our army is the guarantor of security, the shield of sovereignty, and the protector of national unity and legitimate institutions.”
