UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) forces have uncovered an extensive network of fortified tunnels near the towns of Tayr Harfa, Zebqine and Naqoura, UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti announced on Thursday.

Tenenti said the network included “a number of bunkers, artillery pieces, multiple rocket launchers, as well as hundreds of shells and rockets, anti-tank mines and other explosive devices.”

He noted that the discovery was made as part of UNIFIL’s routine operations under UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and in close coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF).

The announcement comes after journalist Tamam Noureddine reported on X that the French contingent of the UN peacekeeping force, stationed south of the Litani River, had uncovered a tunnel network along with a significant stockpile of weapons and ammunition.
