Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) Commander General Rodolphe Haykal reaffirmed on Friday the army’s firm commitment to national security, announcing a “large-scale and important deployment” in the southern Litani region, conducted in close coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), as Israel continues to occupy several points along the border.

Speaking on the occasion of the Army’s 80th anniversary, Haykal praised the people of southern Lebanon for their “full cooperation with the army” and confirmed that the LAF remains in “constant communication” with the Mechanism for Monitoring the Cessation of Hostilities.

He underscored that the military’s priorities remain centered on preserving internal stability, protecting Lebanon’s northern and eastern borders, curbing smuggling operations, and confronting external threats. He also stressed the importance of ongoing coordination with Syrian authorities to bolster border security, which he described as “vital to the stability of both countries.”

Addressing the threat of terrorism, the LAF commander stated that the army is “closely monitoring” suspected militant activity and continues to pursue arrests of individuals affiliated with extremist groups.

Paying tribute to fallen soldiers, Haykal expressed pride in the army’s martyrs and wounded, honoring their sacrifices for the homeland. He concluded his speech by commending the armed forces for their steadfastness and dedication to duty.
