The Ministry of Finance is accelerating its efforts to modernize Lebanon’s customs operations. With a clear goal of enhancing public revenue collection, a large-scale digital transformation is underway, impacting both the Directorate of Revenues and the Customs Directorate.

Key initiatives include the gradual rollout of electronic payment terminals (POS) at regional collection centers, and most notably, a strategic partnership with the company CMA, aimed at boosting inspection capabilities at the Port of Beirut.

With the introduction of new AI-powered scanners, Lebanon has achieved a significant technological leap: up to 60 containers can now be inspected every hour, compared to just 40 per day using the older systems, which had been in operation since 2008.

This leap in efficiency was made possible by a joint $2.1 million grant from the World Bank and the European Union, aimed at upgrading the port’s digital infrastructure.
