The Metropolitan of Beirut for the Greek Orthodox, Archbishop Elias Audi, delivered a sermon in which he said, “In a few days, the fifth anniversary of the heinous explosion that struck our beloved city, Beirut, the capital of a country called to life, will be upon us.”

He added, “Yet many within it remain blind to the truth, silent out of fear, cowardice, collusion or self-interest.”

Commenting on the regional tensions that the Middle East is passing through, Audi added that “our region, too, is drowning in blood and tears, and the world is blind. It does not see the deaths of children or the suffering of the innocent, for it is steeped in evil and sin and far from God.”

“Is it permissible to starve people, displace them from their land or kill them?” he questioned.
