Undefeated, inspired, unstoppable: the young Lebanese squad clinched the WABA U16 title after a high-level final against Iran.
Lebanese basketball has once again made a bold statement on the regional stage. This time, it’s the under-16s who proudly raised the national flag, claiming the West Asia Basketball Association (WABA) U16 championship, following a perfect run at the Prince Hamzeh Hall in Amman, Jordan.
On Thursday evening, in the final, the Lebanese coaching staff’s protégés notched a second win in five days over Iran—this time with a trophy on the line. Final score: 88-80, after a physical, intense and fast-paced battle, the reflection of a fearless generation.
4 Games, 4 Wins: A Royal Path
Before lifting the trophy, Lebanon had already dominated the entire tournament. A group stage fully under control, with three wins in three outings:
• vs. Iran (84–70)
• vs. Jordan (88–68)
• vs. Syria (86–69)
Then came the final. Same Iranian opponent, same happy ending. But with more tension, higher stakes and, above all, more character displayed by the young Lebanese players, who held strong until the end.
Next Stop: Mongolia for the Asians
With this title, Lebanon secures its ticket to the final phase of the U16 Asian Championship, to be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from August 31 to September 7. Iran, the unlucky finalist, will also accompany Lebanon on the road to Asia.
A Strong Signal for the Future
This title confirms the progress made in Lebanon’s youth categories by the Lebanese Basketball Federation, which continues to rack up podium finishes across all levels. With a promising generation, budding talents and a winning mentality deeply rooted, Lebanon is ready to write a new chapter in its basketball story… in golden letters and buzzer beaters.
