President Joseph Aoun on Wednesday called for sustainable regional partnerships grounded in shared interests and long-term development, rather than temporary aid. His remarks came during a visit to Bahrain’s Economic Development Board on the second day of his official trip to the kingdom, at the invitation of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

“Lebanon does not ask for circumstantial assistance, but rather seeks lasting partnerships based on mutual trust,” Aoun said. He emphasized that Lebanon’s recovery and stability serve the interests of the entire region, and pointed to Bahrain as “a sincere partner with whom we can establish a new phase of effective cooperation at the governmental and private sector levels.”

Accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Youssef Rajji, President Aoun was received by several high-ranking Bahraini officials, including Minister of Finance Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Cabinet Affairs Hamad bin Faisal Al Malki, Minister of Commerce Abdullah bin Adel Fakhro, and Minister of Sustainable Development Noor bint Ali Al Khalifa.

Aoun expressed hope that the visit would mark “the beginning of a path of technical and economic cooperation, translated into joint projects, mutual investments, and real development opportunities.” He praised Bahrain’s economic model, highlighting its progress in infrastructure development, diversification efforts, and innovation.

The president also extended his gratitude to the Bahraini leadership and people for their continued support for Lebanon and their hospitality toward the Lebanese expatriate community. “They have always felt among their own on this good land,” he said.

For his part, Bahrain’s Finance Minister outlined the kingdom’s economic recovery efforts, including major development initiatives and the positioning of Bahrain as a key service hub for both the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

President Aoun and his delegation later departed for Gudaibiya Palace for a scheduled meeting with King Hamad, as the visit continues to focus on strengthening bilateral ties.

Establishment of a Diplomatic Mission in Beirut

During President Aoun’s official meeting with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at Al-Qudaibiya Palace, the Bahraini monarch announced the establishment of a permanent Bahraini diplomatic mission in Beirut, marking the resumption of full diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The announcement coincides with the 53rd anniversary of the establishment of Bahraini-Lebanese relations.

“We proudly declare the opening of a permanent diplomatic mission in Beirut,” King Hamad stated, expressing hope that the step would lead to enhanced cooperation across all sectors.

He emphasized Bahrain’s continued support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability, and unity, and voiced optimism that Lebanon would reclaim its regional leadership role.

President Aoun welcomed the decision, affirming that “every Bahraini in Beirut is like every Lebanese, a heartfelt ambassador of your Kingdom.” He added that Lebanon looks forward to renewed bilateral collaboration and a full return of diplomatic engagement.
The leaders also underscored the importance of activating the Bahraini-Lebanese Joint Committee to implement existing agreements and explore new opportunities for economic and strategic cooperation.
