US envoy Tom Barrack expressed optimism about Lebanon’s future on Tuesday, urging the Lebanese people to “have hope” amid ongoing tensions.
Following a meeting with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri at Ain al-Tineh, Barrack described the talks as “excellent,” noting that both sides are working toward achieving long-term stability. “We are working to achieve stability, and the issue is not about guarantees,” he said.
“America will not abandon Lebanon,” Barrack had affirmed upon his arrival at Ain al-Tineh, signaling Washington’s continued engagement.
According to MTV, Berri may be preparing to present a proposal to the US envoy that includes a potential de-escalation framework: Israel halting its military operations for 15 days, followed by initial steps by Lebanon toward disarmament.
Earlier in the day, Barrack also held talks with Finance Minister Yassine Jaber.
