In a new move to support Lebanon’s struggling hospital sector, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) announced on Monday an advance payment of 65 billion Lebanese pounds to contracted hospitals to cover hospitalization fees under fixed-rate agreements.

This payment, expected in the coming days, is part of a broader strategy of regular disbursements aimed at keeping healthcare institutions afloat amid the ongoing economic crisis, according to a statement issued by the NSSF Public Relations Department on July 21, 2025.

Among recent key reforms are the adjustment of the reimbursement for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) to 700 million LL and the increase in value of non-fixed-rate medical procedures.

NSSF Director General Mohammad Karaki said these changes are designed to align reimbursements with actual medical costs, support innovative practices, and ensure sustainable, high-quality coverage for insured individuals.

Since the start of 2025, the NSSF has disbursed 1,514 billion LL for fixed-rate surgical procedures, 637 billion LL for dialysis treatments, and about 630 billion LL for general care including consultations and medication. Total disbursements have reached nearly 2,781 billion LL to hospitals, doctors, and insured individuals in the first seven months of the year.

Karaki urged hospitals to promptly submit complete documentation to speed up payment processing, affirming the NSSF’s commitment to sector stability and equitable access to healthcare.
