After a tense Monday morning marked by a halt in fuel deliveries due to customs delays, the situation is beginning to ease. The interruption came after the customs administration failed to implement the removal of a 100,000 Lebanese pound tax in line with a new pricing schedule issued on Friday by the Ministry of Energy.
Although the new schedule required the tax’s removal, customs had not yet updated their system, prompting fuel import companies to suspend operations.
Maroun Chammas, head of the Association of Petroleum Importers, told This is Beirut that gasoline distribution has resumed, ending the recent disruption. However, “diesel and mazout deliveries will remain on hold until tomorrow, pending the customs system update based on the new directives, especially after the State Council accepted the appeal against the fuel tax,” he added.
Authorities are urged to swiftly complete the necessary updates to prevent further disruptions.
