The Litani River Authority on Thursday issued written evacuation notices for 34 Syrian refugee camps unlawfully established along the banks of the Litani River.
The Authority ordered the evacuation of the camps within 15 days of notification, taking into account the humanitarian conditions of the displaced persons.
The notices were based on a field inspection report conducted by the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces.
According to the report, the camps were constructed within the boundaries of public river property, classified as a prohibited zone on both sides of the river course.
Additionally, the camps fail to meet public safety and health standards and discharge sewage, wastewater, and solid waste directly into the river, exacerbating water pollution and threatening vital water resources.
The Authority called on all relevant parties, particularly the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, governors, and security forces, to assist in enforcing the evacuation orders in accordance with the law.
