Sheikh Yasser Audi was physically assaulted on Tuesday in Haret Hreik, a district in the southern suburbs of Beirut known for its political sensitivity.

According to a report by An-Nahar, a group of young men carried out the attack in broad daylight, shocking residents who witnessed the incident. The cleric was reportedly beaten severely in a public area.

The motive behind the attack remains unknown as of now, and no official statements have been released by local authorities or the municipality of Haret Hreik. Sheikh Audi is known for his vocal opposition to Hezbollah and has publicly criticized the group on numerous occasions. His reformist religious views and political independence have often put him at odds with Hezbollah and its affiliated factions, making him a controversial figure within Lebanon’s Shia community.

The assault has sparked widespread outrage across Lebanese social media, as citizens and activists condemned the violence and demanded an immediate and transparent investigation. The fact that the incident occurred in an area considered a Hezbollah stronghold has added to the intensity of public reaction, with many urging the group to clarify its stance and ensure justice.

No arrests have been reported yet, and Audi’s medical condition has not been publicly disclosed.
