The Lebanese Army accused Israel of escalating its attacks on Lebanon and warned of a potential freeze in coordination with international ceasefire monitors.

In a strongly worded statement on Friday, released by the Army Command, the military condemned what it described as a “clear attempt by Israel to undermine Lebanon’s recovery and stability,” especially on the eve of religious holidays.

“Israel has recently intensified its aggression against Lebanon, targeting civilians, residential buildings, and infrastructure in various areas, most recently in Beirut’s southern suburb and the south overnight,” the statement read.

The army noted that these attacks are taking place with blatant disregard for the ceasefire mechanism and the work of the Tripartite Committee tasked with monitoring hostilities.

“The Army Command strongly condemns these violations.”

It further revealed that upon receiving threats from Israel, the army immediately began coordination efforts with the Tripartite Committee to prevent an escalation and dispatched patrols to inspect various sites, despite Israel’s rejection of proposed measures.

Reaffirming its commitment to UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire agreement, the army warned that Israel’s continued noncompliance with the mechanism and refusal to cooperate with the Tripartite Committee undermine both the committee’s and the Lebanese Army’s roles.

“Such actions may compel the Lebanese Army to suspend its cooperation with the ceasefire monitoring mechanism regarding site inspections,” the statement cautioned.

Despite the mounting challenges, the army stressed its unwavering determination to fulfill its duties. It further stated, “the Lebanese Army continues to face these challenges with resolve, carrying out its complex missions to extend the authority of the state across all Lebanese territory and to safeguard the security of Lebanon and its people.”
