On the eve of Saturday’s municipal elections in the South Lebanon and Nabatiyeh governorates, final preparations are in full swing.

From the central electoral operations room at the Ministry of Interior, Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar is closely supervising the distribution of ballot boxes to polling station heads and clerks, ahead of the official launch of the voting process.

In the mohafazats of the South and Nabatiyeh, a large number of municipal councils have already been elected by default due to a lack of competing candidate lists. This number may rise, as several candidates have submitted withdrawal requests currently under review until the Friday midnight deadline. These figures are preliminary.

Number of municipalities elected by default and by district as of 10:00 AM on Friday morning:

  • Jezzine: 13 municipalities

  • Tyre (Sour): 30 municipalities

  • Saida: 12 municipalities

  • Nabatiyeh: 10 municipalities

  • Bint Jbeil: 16 municipalities

  • Hasbaya: 3 municipalities

  • Marjayoun: 11 municipalities

As for the mukhtars, a total of 77 were elected unopposed across both Nabatiyeh and South Lebanon governorates.

Despite a tense security climate following the recent military escalation in South Lebanon, the electoral process is proceeding as scheduled, according to Minister of Interior Ahmad al-Hajjar. Local authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to the electoral timeline, while stepping up logistical and security arrangements on the ground.
