Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal on Thursday praised the daily efforts of the country's soldiers, emphasizing the military's critical role in preserving national stability and upholding Lebanon's international commitments.

In a message addressed to the troops, General Haykal highlighted the obstacles still being imposed by Israel, particularly those hindering the full deployment of the Lebanese Army in the country’s southern region.

“It is clear and undeniable that your resilience is one of the essential pillars of Lebanon’s endurance, the unity of its people, and the security of the nation,” the army chief declared.

He also stressed the importance of the army’s ongoing efforts to extend state authority across Lebanese territory. Despite the considerable challenges they face, the armed forces continue to operate in close coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the ceasefire monitoring committee established under the agreement of November 27, 2024.

According to General Haykal, the full deployment of the army is particularly vital for securing border areas and facilitating the return of displaced populations to their towns and villages in southern Lebanon. Thousands of residents fled the region amid ongoing hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, which erupted in the wake of the Hamas-led offensive in October 2023.

The army chief also welcomed the military’s role in combating terrorism, organized crime, and smuggling, and in helping ensure the smooth running of the ongoing municipal and mukhtar elections, which began earlier this month.

Encouraging soldiers to continue their mission, General Haykal concluded: “The challenges are great, but they pale in comparison to your determination and sacrifices.” He called for collective action to build the Lebanon its people aspire to.
