Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny announced on Wednesday that $175 million has been allocated for the rehabilitation of Lebanon’s damaged infrastructure in the aftermath of the recent war between Israel and Hezbollah.
Speaking during a press conference at the ministry, Rasamny revealed that seven technical consulting firms have been enlisted to support ongoing and upcoming projects. Among the new initiatives, the ministry plans to introduce hybrid lighting technology to improve energy efficiency and ensure sustainable coverage across the road network.
The minister also unveiled a national plan aimed at rehabilitating and maintaining the country’s entire network of roads and bridges. “What we are undertaking today is a major national project that will connect all regions of Lebanon,” Rasamny said.
He stressed that from his first days in office, the ministry had prioritized work on highways, distinguishing them from other roads to allow for urgent interventions.
“Our working method is different from what it used to be,” he added, calling on municipalities and governorates to actively collaborate by helping classify roadways. Rasamny also emphasized that public safety standards have been fully integrated into the ministry’s technical specifications.
“We hope this project will continue over the coming years. It should become a pillar of sustainable national development,” the minister concluded.
