Prime Minister Nawaf Salam confirmed on Tuesday that the government is committed to ensuring that all weapons in the country remain solely in the hands of the state, as part of broader efforts to restore national sovereignty, stability, and international trust.

The statement was made during the opening of the first edition of “Beirut Arbitration Days,” hosted by the Beirut Bar Association on May 21–22.

The event, organized by the Lebanese and International Arbitration Center (LIAC-BBA), brought together top legal figures and government officials to position Beirut as a regional hub for international arbitration.

Salam outlined the government’s comprehensive vision, which includes enhancing judicial independence, digitizing public institutions, reforming the financial sector, and revitalizing infrastructure — notably modernizing Beirut’s airport and reactivating the Qlayaat Airport.

Most notably, he stressed that reclaiming state monopoly over arms will allow Lebanon to achieve its goals, along with ending ongoing Israeli violations. Both are fundamental to creating a secure and attractive environment for international business and arbitration, he said.
