During his visit to the Baalbeck-Hermel Governorate headquarters, Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad al-Hajjar confirmed that the electoral process is proceeding very smoothly.
He noted that complaints have been minimal and mostly administrative, as is usually the case, with only minor incidents in Fakiha, Kfar Zabad and Hrabta, where voting was temporarily halted due to disputes among candidates.
When asked about the political dimension of the elections, the minister emphasized that political activity is natural and healthy, especially when directed toward development goals, acknowledging the overlapping of political, family and local competition in municipal elections.
Regarding the alleged kidnapping and assault of a representative from a Baalbeck electoral list, he said that the individual has been located and is now with the Internal Security Forces’ Information Branch, which is conducting an investigation to determine the validity of the claim.
The minister noted a good voter turnout in Baalbeck and across the Beqaa region, but expressed concern over low participation in Beirut, hoping for improvement throughout the day. He praised the heads of polling stations and the judges for their coordination efforts in ensuring efficient vote counting, in collaboration with the Ministries of Interior and Justice.
