2% — that’s the average interest rate on deposits in Lebanese pounds, according to the latest figures released by the Banque du Liban for March 2025. This represents a clear decline from 2.86% in February, although it remains higher than the rate recorded a year earlier in March 2024, when it stood at just 1%.
In contrast, interest rates on US dollar deposits experienced a slight increase, rising to 0.10% from 0.08% the previous month — a small gain, but still far from attractive returns for savers.
Commercial banks also adjusted their lending rates: interest on loans in Lebanese pounds fell to 6.41%, down from 7.59% in February. Dollar-denominated loans followed the same trend, with rates declining from 4.29% to 4.11%.
As a result, the average interest rate spread between loans and deposits widened further, reaching 383 basis points in Lebanese pounds and 342 basis points in US dollars.
