Incidents and corruption reports
The elections were marked by several irregularities and incidents from the outset.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, 385 complaints had been recorded, including 314 administrative, 30 security-related, and 41 linked to social media—most of them requests for information or reports of logistical issues.
A clash was reported in Anfeh between the head of a polling station and a voter using her mobile phone. The Internal Security Forces quickly intervened to restore calm.
At the public school in Btermaz (Dennieh), the absence of voting booths was noted, compromising ballot secrecy.
At the technical school in Bakhoun, the large presence of delegates from various electoral lists caused disorder and confrontations. Violent incidents occurred throughout the day, prompting army intervention.
At a polling station in Koura, the station’s president entered the voting booth with a voter, directly violating the principle of ballot secrecy.
At the public school in Halba (Akkar), electoral lists were being distributed inside the polling center.
Another incident delayed the opening of the polls in Kfarsghab (Zgharta) by 45 minutes, as an individual blocked access to the center.
Around noon, elections were suspended in the municipality of Martouma (Akkar) due to a major incident inside the polling station. The army and security forces intervened to manage the situation.
The National News Agency (NNA) also reported a clash at a school in Bhanin between supporters of the two rival lists. The Lebanese army and security forces stepped in to separate the two sides and restore order.
A serious incident occurred in the town of Fnaydeq (Akkar), in front of a women’s polling station. A soldier was assaulted during the altercation, which also left a civilian injured after being stabbed with a knife. A unit of naval commandos arrived at the scene at the same time to secure the polling center.
The General Directorate of State Security announced that it had launched an investigation into a corruption case that occurred on the eve of the elections.
According to a statement published on Sunday, "on May 10, 2025, around 8:00 p.m., the citizen I.F. claimed to have received a sum of $2,000 in two installments ($1,100 initially, followed by $900 after the elections) in exchange for handing over his ID card and that of his wife".
According to the statement, two individuals involved were summoned and questioned on May 10 and 11, 2025.
"After consultation with Judge Ali El-Khatib, it was decided to close the investigation report and proceed with the necessary legal measures," the State Security concluded, reiterating "its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and prosecuting any legal violations in coordination with the competent judiciary."
