Environment Minister Tamara al-Zein conducted a field tour of several southern border villages—Ramia, Aita al-Shaab, Yaroun, Maroun al-Ras, Bint Jbeil, and Ainata—on Thursday to assess the environmental impact of recent Israeli attacks.

Al-Zein reported that over 8,000 hectares of agricultural and forest land had been destroyed due to the strikes, marking a severe blow to the region’s natural resources and livelihoods.

“Despite this destruction, Lebanon remains committed to preserving its environment and supporting its affected communities,” the minister stated during her visit.

As part of efforts to restore a sense of normalcy, she announced the reopening of the Bint Jbeil secondary school next Monday, following completion of renovation works. The move, she said, symbolizes Lebanon’s resilience and commitment to education in the face of adversity.

The Environment Ministry is currently preparing a comprehensive environmental report to evaluate long-term damage and develop strategies for land rehabilitation and recovery.
