The first Emirates Airlines flight from the United Arab Emirates carrying Emirati citizens landed on Wednesday at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport marking a symbolic and warmly welcomed moment in Lebanese-UAE relations.
The airport’s arrivals hall was adorned with flowers to greet the aircraft and its passengers, reflecting the celebratory tone of the occasion.
Several Emirati passengers expressed their happiness upon arrival, noting their joy at returning to Lebanon, particularly following recent political developments, most notably the election of a new president.
They also predicted a growing number of visitors from the UAE in the coming days, praising the warm reception they received upon landing.
Three flights from the United Arab Emirates are set to land on Wednesday at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport, marking the official resumption of Emirati flights to Lebanon. These will be the first flights to arrive since Abu Dhabi lifted its travel ban, effective May 7.
This diplomatic milestone follows the recent visit of President Joseph Aoun to the UAE.
To underscore the significance of the event, Minister of Information Paul Morcos, representing the President of the Republic, officially welcomed the second flight. Minister Paul Morcos welcomed the arrival of visitors from the Gulf, describing it as a positive sign for the development of ties and tourism between Lebanon and the Gulf countries. “We are awaiting the arrival of our brothers from the Gulf. Today marks the beginning of a new phase to strengthen our relationship and boost tourism with the Arab Gulf,” he said.
Morcos emphasized that the current security situation is stable and conducive to welcoming tourists and Gulf nationals. He also stressed the government’s determination to overcome any obstacles that might hinder their return. “The government is fully committed and actively working to facilitate their arrival and ensure a smooth and secure visit,” he added.
This return is of symbolic importance, signaling the end of several years of interruption due to security concerns.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam hosted the ambassadors of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries at the Grand Serail to discuss preparations for the return of Gulf nationals to Lebanon. He emphasized the newly implemented security measures, particularly at Beirut Airport and its surrounding areas.
In this context, Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny, speaking with local channel LBCI, reassured the public that airport security is fully ensured, noting the expected influx of Lebanese expatriates this summer.
Rasamny also announced ongoing efforts to improve airport management, stating, “We have already made enhancements to certain infrastructure at the airport, wherever possible,” and confirmed that a new construction project will be launched in the coming weeks.
