The Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced on Wednesday that officers at Beirut’s International Airport (BIA) arrested a woman on June 19 as she attempted to smuggle around 15 kilograms of Captagon pills hidden inside candy boxes.

In a statement, the ISF revealed that the arrest was part of an ongoing security plan led by the Judicial Police Unit to combat drug trafficking. Following the incident, the Central Anti-Narcotics Bureau launched an investigation to track down the woman’s accomplices.

Investigators identified another suspect, a Jordanian woman born in 1990, who had packed the drugs in the detainee’s suitcase. She was preparing to travel to Jordan when a search warrant was issued. Within 24 hours, she was arrested by the Lebanese General Security.

During questioning, the suspect confessed to her role in packaging the drugs. The probe also revealed the involvement of another individual who supplied the narcotics. A search warrant has been issued against him.

The ISF said investigations are continuing under the supervision of the competent judiciary.
