President Joseph Aoun was on the ground, early on Sunday morning, for the launch of municipal elections. He was accompanied by Ministers of Interior and Justice Ahmad al-Hajjar and Adel Nassar.

The elections, set to unfold over four consecutive weekends, began early in the day. Polling stations opened at 7:00 AM. Voting kicked off calmly across the region. By 9:00 AM, the Ministry of Interior's operations room had received about 10 complaints.

After visiting several polling stations at the Baabda Serail, President Aoun monitored the voting process from the ministry's operations center, then from Télé-Liban headquarter in Tallet el-Khayat.

Aoun emphasized the “vital role of municipalities” in the country's governance. “Our mission is to ensure the security and integrity of the electoral process throughout the day,” he said.

He called on citizens to vote with conscience and choose what best serves their towns and villages. “The ballot box is your natural right,” he told voters. “Put in it the list you believe will best serve the interests of your community. This responsibility lies with you alone.”

Aoun framed the elections as a broader step toward national renewal. “Our goal is to revitalize municipal councils—a first step toward reviving the entire country,” he said.

According to figures from the Ministry of Interior, reported by local agency Al-Markazia, voter turnout shortly before 10:00 AM was as follows:

  • Jbeil: 7.35%
  • Keserwan: 7.14%
  • Aley: 4.64%
  • Northern Shouf: 4.1%
  • Northern Metn: 3.9%
  • Baabda: 3.43%
