Prime Minister Nawaf Salam reaffirmed on Thursday that municipal elections will go ahead as scheduled, with a firm government commitment to transparency and fairness.
In a statement posted on X, Salam addressed growing speculation around the elections, stating unequivocally that “the government’s position is firm in its commitment to hold the municipal elections on time and ensuring their integrity and transparency.”

اما اقتراحات القوانين المعجلة التي قدّمت من السادة النواب، ولا سيما ما يتعلق منها ببيروت، فلم يُتح للحكومة مهلة لدراستها، لذلك كان لا بد من طلب تأجيلها .

Commenting on expedited law proposals submitted by MPs, particularly those concerning Beirut, Salam noted that the government had not yet had sufficient time to examine them thoroughly, prompting a necessary request for their postponement.
Beyond the procedural matters, Salam struck a more personal tone regarding the capital, saying “my concern is to preserve the unity of Beirut, as a symbol of Lebanon’s unity in its diversity.”
He underscored the importance of inclusive governance, expressing full confidence in the people of Beirut to protect and represent their city. “Beirut is an ancient city that embraces everyone and preserves the role of all its citizens,” he said.
Looking to the future, the Prime Minister called for launching integrated development projects to restore the city’s vibrancy and meet its pressing needs. “Beirut must regain its splendor,” Salam urged, signaling a strong push toward revitalization and recovery.
