As the potato harvest gets underway, Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture on Monday called on citizens to support locally grown produce—particularly potatoes cultivated in the Akkar Plain, a region known for its high-quality agricultural output.
In an official statement, the Ministry praised the dedication of farmers in Akkar, highlighting their commitment to sustainable farming practices that yield environmentally friendly potatoes safe for consumption. These efforts, it noted, ensure the delivery of healthy, top-grade potatoes to local markets, reinforcing Akkar’s key role in Lebanon’s agricultural landscape.
“Supporting Lebanese potatoes is crucial for revitalizing the country’s agricultural economy,” the Ministry emphasized. It encouraged consumers to prioritize locally grown potatoes, stressing that such a choice strengthens local farming communities, bolsters national production, and sustains the agricultural sector amid ongoing economic hardship.
The Ministry also urged retailers and market vendors to favor Lebanese potatoes over imported alternatives, framing it as a meaningful step in defending national agriculture and reaffirming solidarity with Lebanon’s farmers.
By choosing homegrown potatoes, the Ministry concluded, citizens not only back Lebanese farmers but also help the country’s agricultural sector withstand increasing foreign competition.
