In what may signal a significant shift in strategy, Hezbollah has reportedly orchestrated the quiet relocation of hundreds of its commanders and their families from Lebanon to countries in Latin America and Africa.
According to Saudi television channel Al-Hadath, which cited a well-informed diplomatic source, approximately 400 officials have left Lebanon over the past several months. Most are said to have resettled in Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, and Ecuador.
The move comes amid speculation that Hezbollah may be preparing to dismantle or scale down its military wing in Lebanon, under increasing pressure from regional dynamics and international scrutiny.
The source noted that the relocation is primarily aimed at shielding high-ranking members from targeted Israeli strikes or tracking by international intelligence agencies. “Staying in Lebanon increasingly exposes them to significant risk,” the source stated, “especially as the group remains under heavy surveillance and is designated a terrorist organization by numerous Western governments.”
If confirmed, this development could mark a turning point for Hezbollah.
