On Wednesday, Minister of Agriculture Nizar Hani signed a decree establishing the National Commission for Wine, Arak and Alcoholic Beverages. The commission, chaired by Louis Lahoud, the General Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, aims to strengthen the impact of Lebanon's wine and alcoholic beverage sector on the national economy.

The commission's primary mission is also to enhance the presence of Lebanese alcohol in international markets, improve fiscal policies, marketing strategies, intellectual property rights, as well as address food safety and social policies related to alcohol.

Minister Hani outlined several strategic goals for the commission, including coordinating efforts to position Lebanon's spirits sector on the global stage, ensuring compliance with current standards and regulations, advising on sector priorities both nationally and internationally, overseeing projects and research related to wine and spirits, improving the production of alcoholic beverages in Lebanon, ensuring fair treatment of local and imported wines and spirits in foreign markets, promoting equitable access to international markets, and developing social responsibility projects for Lebanese producers.

This initiative marks a pivotal moment for the Lebanese wine and alcoholic beverage sector, with the aim of revitalizing the industry and allowing it to establish a strong international presence.
