Deputy US Special Envoy for the Middle East Morgan Ortagus is expected in Israel within the next hours, carrying a proposal for settling the persisting tensions between Lebanon and Israel, particularly in light of the escalation in recent days.
According to several sources, Ortagus, who will travel to Lebanon after her visit to Israel, will seek to broker an agreement between the conflicting parties to pursue negotiations aimed at reinforcing the ceasefire, and to initiate discussions on the demarcation of the land border.
According to information relayed by Lebanese media, US pressure has recently intensified in order to persuade Lebanon to accept negotiation proposals, while insisting on the need for Hezbollah’s rapid disarmament. However, the Lebanese side reportedly maintains its position, limiting any possible indirect negotiations with Israel to security issues.
