The Lebanese championship has resumed after the Wasl break. While Riyadi had to fight hard to narrowly defeat Hoops, La Sagesse cruised past Champville. Meanwhile, Beirut Club continues its impressive streak and positions itself as a serious contender in the title race.
After their participation in the Wasl championship, the giants of Lebanese basketball returned to the local league with two contrasting victories: a hard-fought win for Riyadi (86-84 against Hoops) and a dominant success for La Sagesse (98-76 against Champville).
La Sagesse Regains Momentum
After a lackluster performance in Wasl, La Sagesse, also known as the Greens, convincingly returned to victory against Champville on Matchday 4. Despite a tight start, La Sagesse players managed to impose their rhythm from the second quarter onwards to secure a commanding win (97-68).
The man of the match was undoubtedly Shabazz Muhammad, who scored 34 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. He was well supported by Zach Lofton (21 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists) and Omar Jamaleddine (12 points, 6 rebounds). This victory allows the Greens to reposition themselves in the title race with a record of four wins in as many games.
Riyadi Pulls Through in a Nail-Biter
While La Sagesse shone, Riyadi had to fight until the last seconds to overcome Hoops. Trailing at halftime, the Yellow and Blue turned things around thanks to a stellar performance from Wael Arakji (24 points, 8 assists, 4 steals). They ultimately secured the narrow win (86-84) and maintained their unbeaten record after five rounds.
Hoops, despite struggling this season, put up a strong fight thanks to Albert English (32 points, 10 assists, 6 steals) and Dikembe Dixon (22 points, 8 rebounds). Despite this frustrating loss, they proved that they could challenge the league’s best teams.
Beirut Club, a Serious Contender
Meanwhile, Beirut Club recorded its fifth consecutive victory by solidly dominating its opponent of the day. With a well-oiled team and strong collective play, the capital’s club is asserting itself as Riyadi’s main challenger in the title race. Ali Haidar (22 points, 9 rebounds) and Brian Halums (17 points) were the key contributors to this latest win.
With Riyadi leading, La Sagesse lurking, and Beirut Club on the rise, the championship promises to be more competitive than ever.
