Ahead of the extraordinary Arab summit on the situation in Gaza scheduled for Tuesday, President Joseph Aoun met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. The two officials discussed the situation in South Lebanon and the necessity of an Israeli withdrawal from the five points where its forces have maintained their positions.
President Aoun arrived in Cairo at 9:30 AM on Tuesday from Riyadh, where he met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS). He is set to hold a series of official meetings before the summit begins.
Following his departure from the kingdom to Egypt, the Lebanese president sent a letter of appreciation to MBS, thanking him for his “warm welcome, which reflects the depth of the fraternal ties between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.” “Our discussions served to strengthen the foundations of a new phase in our relations, which we have agreed to develop on multiple levels,” he wrote. President Aoun also asked the crown prince to convey to King Salman “the deep gratitude of the Lebanese people for Saudi Arabia’s historic positions in support of the Land of the Cedars.”
