Électricité du Liban (EDL) has confirmed in a statement that the electricity supply issue has been resolved through cooperation with Iraq. Baghdad approved the shipment of necessary fuel under a fuel exchange agreement, which allowed the unloading of a diesel shipment (from January 2025) provided by the Ministry of Energy. This shipment had been blocked since February 17, 2025, near the Deir Ammar power plant due to disputes over fuel specifications.
As a result, EDL announced that as of February 26, the preventive measures implemented over the past two weeks to avoid a total blackout have been lifted. Lebanon is now set to receive six to eight hours of electricity per day nationwide.
EDL further explained that all decisions regarding electricity supply are solely based on technical factors, with fuel availability being just one of several considerations. These include the condition of power plants, maintenance schedules for production units, the continuity of fuel supply for the next three months, payment collection rates across different regions, EDL’s financial situation, as well as its ability to carry out necessary repairs and cover the costs of consumed fuel.
