MP Neemat Frem officially announced on Thursday his candidacy to the presidency.

“I hereby officially announce, on behalf of the "Project Watan,” (the movement he leads) my candidacy for the Lebanese presidency and my readiness to undertake this national responsibility,” he said during a press conference.

Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berry has called an election session for January 9, 2025.

Frem laid out five principles, which include his “commitment to implementing the cessation of hostilities arrangement (between Lebanon and Israel) as a mechanism to enforce UN Security Council Resolution 1701, along with related resolutions concerning Lebanon, under the legitimate cover of the presidency, as a cornerstone for ensuring stability”.

Another one of his principles is “forming a government tasked with the serious and complete implementation of 1701, restricting arms to legitimate authorities, strengthening trust in all Lebanese security forces and providing them with the necessary support and equipment.”

He also assured “implementing the comprehensive rescue and reform project” developed by his movement. Frem talked about his “commitment to developing a productive and pioneering State that delivers modern and superior services.”

“The aim is to transform individual successes into collective achievements through the participation of all talents and expertise,” he said.

“I hope this proposal will gain the support and trust of parliamentary blocs and my fellow MPs. Yet, as it is said: "Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain,” he concluded.
